Finding a Good Roommate
You might still be in college, your rent is too high and you need to find a roommate. You might have other reasons why you should look for someone to share your rental or your own house with.
Whichever is your case, it is always a good idea to follow some easy guidelines so that things go smoothly. You can end up with a great roomy you won’t have to change too soon.
One of the first things you could do is to think clearly about the things you would expect from your roommate. Then make a list of these aspects and prioritize them, placing the ability to pay the rent, get along with you and keep the house clean where they should be placed.
Of course the most important thing for most is to look for someone who can actually pay his share of the rent in time. After all, maybe this has been the main reason that drove you to your decision of looking for a roomy in the first place.
So it would be a great idea to inquire about your possible roommates’ sources of income, if they have a steady job or if their parents are still helping them out. Learn if they have mighty big future plans, such as buying a car anytime soon.
All these can influence greatly the way a roommate can or cannot pay the monthly rent. Make sure you choose a responsible and dependable roommate anyway you can, calling their employers, for instance.
Also, you will definitely need someone who can wash his or her own dishes. The last thing you would want is coming home to a battle field instead of a clean and tidy home, so look for any clue that might help you make an idea on the kind of person you are interviewing.
